XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF DYNAMIC GAMES E-LETTER, issue No. 9, 12 May 1993 Edited by Raimo P. Hamalainen and Harri Ehtamo Systems Analysis Laboratory, Helsinki University of Technology ISDG@FINHUT.BITNET or ISDG@FINHUT.HUT.FI XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Dear Dynamic Game Theorist, This is the ninth issue of the Society’‘s electronic newsletter. The basic minimum work principle in editing this e-letter is that the READERS send important notes and information about symposia, conferences and workshops of dynamic games, as well as abstracts of Ph.D. theses, papers and books, which they want to be included in the newsletter. The format is described below. We hope that no retyping will be needed so please follow the instructions and sample shown below carefully. The news should be concise to keep the newsletter readable. Requests for more complete information about any news item should be directed to its contributor. We appreciate any comments and suggestions that you may have on this e-letter. Next issue is planned to be sent out in June. Looking forward to receiving your news contributions. Raimo P. Hamalainen and Harri Ehtamo P.S. The two e-mail addresses given above are in principle identical. Depending on your network one or both of them should work. If you are in a BITNET node you only need ISDG at FINHUT. In any case the safest and easiest way is to use the reply command in your e-mail system. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Contributed by the Editors May 12 MODEL FOR NEWS SUBMISSIONS Maximum line length is 72 characters. Place the text between two lines of x:ses. The first line should state "Contributed by" and followed by the contributor’s name, in brackets and the date. Then there should be a title line and the text. This info block should be sent to ISDG at FINHUT. Lafayette, Indiana, USA), H. Flashner (USC, Los Angeles, California, USA), and FE. P. Ryan (University of Bath, Bath, UK). The new editors reiterate the policy of the journal: The intention is to provide an archival peer-reviewed outlet for original contributions to dynamical systems (interpreted in a broad sense), control, and the interface between these areas. Papers on all aspects of dynamical behavior - controlled and uncontrolled - are sought: contributions pertaining to nonlinearity, stability, uncertainty and robustness are particularly welcome. Applications, especially those with wider ramification in theory and practice, are encouraged. Authors should submit five hard copies of their final manuscript to Mrs. Karen S. Breton, G. Zaccour International Program Committee M. Bardi (IT), T. Basar (USA), R.P. Hamalainen (SF), A. Haurie (CH), A.A. Melikyan (R), G.d. Olsder (NL), T.E.S. Raghavan (USA), J. Shinar (IL), T.L. Vincent (USA), A.J. de Zeeuw (NL). The Symposium is the sixth one in a series of meetings dedicated to the area of dynamic games and is the official biannual scientific meeting of the ISDG. The aim of the meeting is to bring together researchers from various disciplines where dynamic game settings are studied, and to report the latest developments both in theory and applications. Location: The conference will take place at Auberge Gray Rocks, St-Jovite, in the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal. Driving distance from Mirabel airport to Gray Rocks is less than one hour, and from Montreal approximatively 1h45. Transportation arrangements will be made for participants. Further information on registration and accomodation fees will be provided later. Topics covered by the Conference include Zero-sum dynamic games Pursuit-evasion problems Nonzero-sum dynamic games Incentive strategies Cooperative equilibria Dynamic bargaining models Computational methods Dynamic games in economics Energy and Resource management AI applications to dynamic games Environmental issues Applications in Management Science Evolutionary games in biology Worst case and minimax design Tutorials A preconference day of tutorials on the subject of viscosity solutions will be organized by M. Bardi (It); it will be held on July 11, at Ecole des HEC, Montreal. Plenary Lectures Plenary lectures will be organized on Two-person zero-sum differential games (P. Bernhard, Fr) and on Interplay in Economics/Dynamic games Evolution theory/Dynamic games Management science/ April 8 INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON APPLIED CONTROL THEORY to be held July 12-14, 1993 Adelaide, Australia The School of Mathematics and the Scheduling and Control Group at the University of South Australia plan to host a three-day workshop in Adelaide during the week preceding the IFAC Congress in Sydney. The focus of the workshop will be the application of the tools of modern Control Theory to the problems of ENERGY EFFICIENT SCHEDULING AND CONTROL and ENV IRONMRNTAL CONTROLS These two areas of application of Control Theory are likely to experience significant growth in the coming decade. Active research in these topics is currently under way at the University of South Australia. To facilitate, to the greatest possible extent, the application of state-of-the-art techniques of control to these areas of interest, the organisers will invite national and international experts in both theory and applications to present a series of stimulating plenary lectures. Every effort will be made to create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of interactive research and the exchange of ideas among participants. The city of Adelaide is situated on St. Vincent Gulf in South Australia. The city has a Mediterranean style climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. Popular winter activities include wine-tasting in the nearby Barossa and Clare Valleys and the Southern Vales Districts where many of Australia’s finest wines are made. There are numerous sightseeing and bushwalking opportunities in the Adelaide Hills with the Cleland Conservation Park and the magnificent Warrawong Sanctuary among the most popular attractions. There is easy access to the nearby Southern Coast with whale-spotting in Victor Harbor one of the most rewarding July activities. Adelaide is a city of approximately one million people with three universities and two Science Parks. It is the site of the Multi Function Polis, an international project aimed at integrating new technologies, industries and environmental management practices into innovative urban designs.
