XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF DYNAMIC GAMES E-LETTER, issue No. 4, 24 January 1992 Edited by Raimo P. Hamalainen and Harri Ehtamo Systems Analysis Laboratory, Helsinki University of Technology ISDG@FINHUT.BITNET or ISDG@FINHUT.HUT.FI XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Dear Dynamic Game Theorist, This is the fourth issue of the Society’s electronic newsletter. The basic minimum work principle in editing this e-letter is that the READERS send important notes and information about symposia, conferences and workshops of dynamic games, as well as abstracts of Ph.D. theses, papers and books, which they want to be included in the newsletter. The format is described below. We hope that no retyping will be needed so please follow the instructions and sample shown below carefully. The news should be concise to keep the newsletter readable. Requests for more complete information about any news item should be directed to its contributor. We appreciate any comments and suggestions that you may have on this e-letter. Next issue is planned to be sent out in May 1992. Looking forward to receiving your news contributions. Raimo P. Hamalainen and Harri Ehtamo P.S. The two e-mail addresses given above are in principle identical. Depending on your network one or both of them should work. If you are in a BITNET node you only need ISDG at FINHUT. In any case the safest and easiest way is to use the reply command in your e-mail system. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Contributed by the Editors January 24 MODEL FOR NEWS SUBMISSIONS Maximum line length is 72 characters. Place the text between two lines of x:ses. The first line should state "Contributed by” and followed by the contributor’s name, in brackets and the date. Then there should be a title line and the text. This info block should be sent to ISDG at FINHUT. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Contributed by Tamer Basar January 21 ANNALS OF THE SOCIETY We have just signed an agreement with a publishing company, Birkhauser of Boston and Basel, launching a new series in dynamic game theory, to be called "Annals of the International Society of Dynamic Games" which will have at least one volume published every year. The first volume of the Series is scheduled to appear towards the end of this year, and will contain refereed and edited papers from the upcoming Symposium in Grimentz. Every two years the biannual meeting of the Society will feed the Series, and in the alternate years a volume of invited papers will be organized around a specific topic. More details on this will be included in the future issues of the Newsletter. Zaccour Program: The Symposium is the fifth one in a series of meetings dedicated to the area of dynamic games and is the official biannual scientific meeting of the ISDG. The aim of the meeting is to bring together researchers from various disciplines where dynamic game settings are studied, and to report the latest developments both in theory and application. This year, in addition to the classical topics covered by the Conference which include Zero-sum dynamic games, Pursuit-evasion problems, Nonzero-sum dynamic games, Incentive strategies, Cooperative equilibria, Dynamic bargaining models, Computational methods, Dynamic games in economics, Energy and resource management, AI applications to dynamic games, Worst case and minimax designs, the Symposium is putting a particular emphasis on the theme Dynamic Games and Environmental Management Modeling. The following topics are encompassed in this theme: Economic growth and environmental management, Energy planning with emission constraints, Cooperative strategies to reduce CO2 and/or acid gas emissions, Incentives for environmental management, Control and verification. The following plenary speakers have already accepted to make presentations: L. Berkovitz (Purdue, USA) on A Theory of Differential Games, G. Leitmann (UC Berkeley, USA) on Deterministic Control of Uncertain Systems Based on a Constructive Use of Lyapunov Stability Theory, R. Loulou (Mc Gill U., Canada) on Computation of Large-Scale Equilibria between Cooperating or Hierarchized Agents in Energy Environment Models, T.E.S. Raghavan (Univ. of Illinois at Chicago, USA) on Stochastic Games: Algorithms, Existence Theorems and Counter Examples, J-P. Vial (Univ. of Geneva, Switz.) on Interior Point Decomposition Techniques for Multi-Agent and Stochastic Environmental Models. Deadlines: February 1, 1992: Titles and three copies of an extended abstract (approximately 500 words) March 1, 1992: Notification of acceptance of the paper April 15, 1992: Full paper May 15, 1992: Confirmation of hotel reservation in Grimentz and in Geneva. Tutorial Sessions: A preconference day of tutorials is organized on JULY 13, in Conches. T. Basar (CSL, Urbana, USA) and P. Bernhard (INRIA, Sophia Antipolis, France) will present a two-part tutorial on H-infinity Optimal Control and Dynamic Games; J. Filar will present a tutorial on Control and Game Theoretic Perspective on the Modeling of Enhanced Greenhouse Effect; B. Tolwinski (Colorado School of Mines, USA) will present a tutorial on Assessing the Impact of International Environmental Policies: A Dynamic Game Perspective. Each tutorial presentation lasts 90 minutes. Registration and Accomodation: An overall fee is Sfr. 550. It covers -Conference registration and conference kit -Full board for 3 days (starting the evening of July 14, ending the afternoon of July 17); this includes breakfast, lunch and dinner (reduced rates are available for persons sharing a room) -Get acquainted party on July 14 evening. There is a possibility to extend the stay at the hotels at a rate of Sfr. 90 per extra day (half pension). Please note that the tutorial sessions will be held in Conches-Geneva, not in Grimentz. The Sfr. 550 fee does not include the lodging and meals in Geneva. A block of 30 rooms has been reserved at Hotel Carlton, in downtown Geneva. The reservations will have to be made directly by each participant at this hotel BEFORE MAY 15 1992. Publication: A collection of papers presented at the Symposium will be published by Birkhauser, as an edited volume. All the papers included in this selection will be fully reviewed. At the time of submission, please indicate if you wish to have your contribution also considered for inclusion in this volume.
