CONFLICT-CONTROLLED PROCESSES by A.A. Chikrii (Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics, Kiev, Ukraine) The book advances a new method (Method of Resolving Functions) for the solution of game problems of pursuit-evasion, which efficiently solves a wide range of game problems. The method is based on using the inverse Minkovski functionals. One of the remarkable feature of this method is that in the case of 'simple motions' it fully substantiates the classic 'parallel pursuit' rule, well known on heuristic level to the designers of control systems. This general method can be used for the solution of differential games of group and successive pursuit, the problem of complete controllability (the analogue to Kalman problem), and the problem of conflict interaction of groups of conflict-controlled objects. The cases of state constraints (including solutions of many examples from Isaacs' book), delay of information on a state, and dynamic systems of various structure are treated. The comparison with the classic methods of L.S.Pontryagin and N.N.Krasovskii is given. A great amount of solved complex problems of pursuit- evasion (with many participants in their number) illustrate the possibilities of the method. Some basic notions from functional and convex analysis, theory of set- valued maps, and control theory are sufficient for understanding the main content of the book. This book will be of interest to specialists as well as graduate and postgraduate students in applied mathematics and mechanics, and researchers in mathematical theory of control, games theory, and its applications. This is a revised and updated translation from Russian of the monograph 'Conflict-Controlled Processes', Kiev, Naukova Dumka, 1992,384p. Supervisor: L. Petrosjan The work is devoted to investigation of optimal behavior in cooperative dynamic games. The Shapley value and its varieties (beta-value, CS-value) are chosen as optimality principles, and it gives a possibility to define by the only way a distribution of maximal common payoff between players. In the thesis the Shapley value beta-value and CS-value are investigated for following classes of cooperative dynamic games: combinatorial game, minimum cost spanning tree game, its cyclic modification, and cooperative game of trade information. Because of dynamic character of games under consideration, it's necessary to analyse if the distribution chosen at the beginning of the game is always optimal. So, its undispensible to check if an optimality principle is time consistent. "Regularized" Shapley value is constructed for combinatorial game and cooperative game of trade information, because of time unconsistency of Shapley value in these games. For minimum cost spanning tree game and cyclic modification, Shapley value, beta-value and CS-value are constructed and proved to be time consistent. _____________________ Author: S. Tarashnina Title: The Nash equilibria in the group pursuit game. Supervisor: L. Petrosjan It was found out in the problems of group pursuit, in particular in the non zero-sum game of simple pursuit with several evaders (each aiming his own interests) and one pursuer, that there exists an infinite set of Nash equilibriums. The player P (the pursuer) is able to force the evaders to behave in an extremely disadvantageous way by means of the threat of changing the pursuit order. The different Nash equilibria with this property are considered. Consider a differential game of pursuit with one pursuer P and evaders E1,..., Em. Let the payoff of Ei, i=1,...,m, be the time when he meets the pursuer (his capture time). Define the payoff of P as the negative value of the payoff of Ei being caught the last. The pursuer P at the moment t=0 determines the order of pursuit he must hold. The pursuer P uses the strategy of parallel pursuit according to the order established. In other words, the player P pursues consequently everyone of the evaders using Pi-strategy. By the conditions of the game he is allowed to change the order of pursuit finite number of times. The analytical description of the set omega is given. A wide class of other less absurd but still enough disadvantageous for the evaders Nash equilibria are constructed, and the corresponding sets of initial conditions described. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Contributed by the Editors July 7 (From E-LETTER, issue No. 27, 5 February 1997) Sils-Maria Workshop on Dynamic Games and Applications Organizers: T. Basar, A. Haurie and O. Pourtallier Date: August 20-22, 1997 Dear friends of the ISDG: As you may know, there will be an interesting International Symposium on Mathematical Programming in Lausanne, Switzerland, on August 24-29, 1997. You can get all the relevant info about this event on the following URL: http://dmawww.epfl.ch/roso.mosaic/ismp97/. In conjunction with this important event which will include several sessions on game theory, we are organizing a small workshop on Dynamic Games and Applications on August 20-22 that will be held in Sils-Maria (Grisons-Graubunden), in South-Eastern Switzerland. The aim of this small workshop is twofold: +To provide the executive committee of the ISDG an opportunity to meet in order to discuss the business of the Society +To have a two-day interaction among active researchers in the field of dynamic games. The workshop will take place in a very charming mansion - property of the University of Geneva - located in a unique scenic spot in the St-Moritz-Bernina area. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Switzerland and a paradise for hikers, mountainers, bird watchers, windsurfers, mountain-bikers, etc... The university house, which is a venerable old building, can host 26 persons on a room sharing basis. Most of the rooms are spacious and all are very cosy; although there is a limited number of rooms with private bathrooms, there are plenty of washrooms (almost one per room). The cost of the house is 3600 frs for 3 nights. This gives an average of 47 frs per night and per person (including breakfast), which is a real bargain for the region and the season. The rental price will be slightly adjusted depending on the quality of the room (size, view, etc). The village of Sils-Maria, a favorite summer vacation place of F. Nietzsche who once said that this is where "Finland meets Italy", is easily accessible by train from Geneva (6 hour ride) or Zurich (3 hour ride). Close to the house is a very comfortable hotel, the Waldhaus, where we shall have our dinners. We propose an organization of the workshop days that will permit the participants to enjoy the scenery of the region: 7:30-8:30 am Breakfast 8:30-11:30 am Sessions 11:30-5:00 pm Free time 5:00-8:00 pm Sessions 8:00 pm Dinner This meeting will be the occasion for the executive committee to manage the business of the Society. The EC-members are therefore strongly encouraged to register early to ensure their participation. Since there are only 26 rooms at a bargain price and because August is still the peak tourist season, please decide early if you want to participate. We propose the following deadlines: As soon as possible: Indicate your interest in participating in the workshop, with a tentative title of your talk. April 1st: Advance payment of the 3-night stay at the University House (We apologize for this scheme which may look like a fool's day joke, but since we are renting the whole house on behalf of the Society we cannot run any risk of no-shows). If we do not get enough guaranteed participation at that date, we will be forced to cancel the event. June 1st: Receipt of the full paper or extended abstract for preparation of the proceedings volume.
